On Friday 20th March two scholars from the Nottingham Roosevelt Scholarship will joining us as our guest speakers.

Henry Franklin, a chartered mechanical engineer and graduate from Nottingham University, will be speaking about his experiences of the Nottingham Roosevelt Memorial Scholarship where he spent 6 weeks in the States completing a project examining the adoption of prefabrication in the construction sector.

Joining Henry will be Sam Preston, a behaviour change officer at Nottingham City Council. After reading geography at Durham University, Sam received an Experiencing China scholarship at Tsinghua University where she specialised in the environment, before starting a placement at Nottingham City Council (NCC) coordinating the new sustainability plan. Following some public engagement work in London around recycling, she returned to NCC on their graduate programme, running behaviour change initiatives for staff, businesses and citizens.

At our event, Sam will also be talking about her recent trip to the US as a travelling Roosevelt Scholar where she researched the sustainability stories of 11 US cities, taking lessons home to help shape Nottingham’s transition into the UK’s first carbon neutral city. 

The Nottingham Roosevelt Memorial Travelling Scholarship is awarded annually to young men and women aged between 21 and 35 working and/or living in the City or County of Nottingham and being primarily engaged in trade, commerce or the professions.The Scholarship consists of a gift of money to enable the successful applicant them to visit the USA for a period of between 6 weeks and three months.

The object of the Scholarship is to promote study and to obtain further education and in particular of the history and way of life of the American people by granting scholarships to young men and women of distinction and ability in commerce and industry to enable them to visit the United States of America.

Tickets for the event cost £27.50 for members and £39.50 for non-members.
