The next chapter in Nottingham’s exciting regeneration story is underway. Plans for the £390m, 20-acre Waterside development on the banks of the River Trent have been submitted to Nottingham City Council this week. National regeneration specialists ISIS Regeneration and English Partnerships are behind the plans which include proposals for over 2000 homes, restaurants, bars and offices, all within 20 minutes walk of the city centre. Community facilities including a doctor’s surgery and a nursery are also planned. ISIS and English Partnerships are being backed by Nottingham Waterside Ltd - a joint venture between Nottingham Regeneration Limited, British Waterways, Nottingham City Council and the East Midlands Development Agency. | | | | NEMA Flying High
Nottingham East Midlands Airport (NEMA) has picked up another award, this time for Best Regional Airport 2006. Hundreds of travel agents from across the UK and Ireland voted as part of the annual Selling Long Haul and Short Breaks and Holidays Awards. Competition was tough with more than 10 other airports fighting it out in the same category. This latest award will sit nicely alongside its Best UK Airport Award - picked up at last year’s British Travel Awards. | | | | Tp awrd 4 nw srvce

Nottingham’s position among the top five retail cities in the UK was confirmed this week with new figures showing that shoppers spent more than £1.2bn in the city last year. This places Nottingham ahead of Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle in terms of spending power. The retail offer is set to improve in the coming years, with the planned £450m expansion of the Broadmarsh shopping centre, the £70m Trinity Square scheme which is getting closer to completion and the neighbouring Pod and Lace Market Square development totalling £25m currently underway. | | | | City's 'New-Look' Square Delayed
The Christmas opening of Nottingham's £7m new-look Old Market Square has been delayed because of a shortage of building materials. The city council said contractor Balfour Beatty is having problems sourcing stone from China and Ireland.
A Christmas tree and decorations will be put in place with the big switch-on planned for the end of November.
But part of the main square will be closed off until the final work is completed in February.
The new design includes a new water feature and removal of all the old steps and walls.
The square is boarded up while the work is being done.
